Seneca good turbine site, expert says
The potential is high for wind turbines to be placed in Seneca County in the next few years and that possibility comes with community benefits, but also responsibilities. Dale Arnold gave that message to a group Wednesday during a presentation at Bubby’s restaurant in New Riegel. Arnold, who has been director of energy policy and services with Ohio Farm Bureau Federation for 20 years, reviewed the progression of energy development through the years which resulted in the viability of wind turbines to generate electricity. “Within five years, you might see 450 to 500 wind turbines in Ohio, including Seneca County,” he said. Next week, he said the final decision is to be made on the installation of 25 wind turbines in Champaign and Hardin counties. “We might not have the greatest wind resources in the world, but our strength is in the distribution system,” Arnold said. The lines and substations to deliver electricity to consumers already are in place. “That is your resource.
