Columbian High School freshmen wait for the conclusion of the practice Ohio Graduation Test session Tuesday morning.
Some students at Calvert and Columbian high schools are reporting to school two hours late this week, but not because fog or snow is pushing back the start of classes. This marks the second year the high schools have operated under a two-hour-delay system during the week the Ohio Graduation Tests are administered. “My personal opinion of (the system) is it works pretty well,” said Scott Urban, director of instruction and personnel for Tiffin City Schools. Urban said Larry Kisabeth, who retired as Columbian’s principal, attended a Northern Ohio League meeting, and several other NOL schools were operating using the two-hour-delay system. Kisabeth brought the idea to Tiffin City Schools. Urban said administrators weren’t sure how parents would react to it and initially were hesitant to implement the idea. They also were concerned with transportation. The district, Urban said, did not want to increase its busing costs.
