Election 2010

1 change in election board’s official tally

May 19, 2010

One race requires an automatic recount based on the official ballot count for the May 4 Primary Election. The Seneca County Board of Elections meet Tuesday morning to certify the official count and vote on provisional ballots. The board accepted four absentee ballots which were postmarked on election day but not received until the day after and seven ballots cast by 17 year olds, which were remade due to errors. After the vote was totaled with the provisional ballots included, Donavon E. Coppus, candidate for Republican Central Committee Precinct 41, was named the winner over Aaron M. Smith. Board member Charles Knight said he spoke with Smith, who said he intended to stop the recount and have Coppus named the winner. Smith needs to have a letter stating his intention to the office by May 20. There were no other races where the results changed significantly due to the official count. Of 36,889 voters registered in the county, 10,799 voted in the May 4 election.
